About Aeroklub Portorož

Aeroklub Portorož is a flight school that operates at Portorož Airport in Sečovlje, Slovenia. The club began operations in the year 2008. In 2023 it celebrated 15 years of continuous activity. The school trains pilots using aircraft that it owns.

The school offers several training programmes for people who want to become pilots. Students can choose to train for the Light Aircraft Pilot Licence. They can also choose to train for the Private Pilot Licence. In addition, the club provides specialised rating courses for night flying and for flight instruction.

The LAPL programme requires a minimum of 30 hours of flight time. After completing this programme, graduates may fly single engine piston aircraft for which they are qualified. They may carry up to three passengers on flights. The aircraft must have a maximum certified takeoff mass of 2000 kilograms or less. Students may begin this training once they reach the age of 16.

The PPL programme requires a minimum of 45 hours of flight time. This licence also covers flying single engine piston aircraft. After gaining this licence, pilots may later pursue extra ratings. These additional ratings include instrument ratings and ratings for multi engine piston aircraft. The minimum age to begin this training is also 16 years old.

The night rating course requires a minimum of five hours of flight time. This rating allows pilots to fly under visual flight rules during night hours. Applicants must already hold a valid LAPL or PPL before they start this course.

The flight instructor rating course requires a minimum of 30 hours of flight time. This rating allows the holder to teach other pilot candidates for licences and ratings. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. They must also have at least 200 total flight hours, including 150 hours as pilot in command.

The club owns the aircraft that are used for all training flights. Its fleet includes Piper Tomahawk PA 38 aircraft and a Cessna C172. The school conducts its flight training operations at Portorož Airport near the town of Portorož in Slovenia.
