About Western Australian Specialty Alloys
Western Australian Specialty Alloys, known as WASA, makes superalloy ingot for forging. Its products are used in ring rolling, closed die forging and general forging for aerospace, power generation and oil and gas. The company says it was founded in 1993. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Precision Castparts Corp., a United States manufacturer based in Portland, Oregon.
WASA has two sites in Australia. The melting facility is in Canning Vale near Perth, Western Australia. It was commissioned in 1993 and expanded in 2022. It covers 6,800 square metres of manufacturing and support space, with primary vacuum and secondary melting furnaces. The second site is in Albury, in New South Wales, and was acquired in 2013. All production there, including sawing, forging, heat treatment, machining, testing and certification, is done in house.
The company says it can melt from primary vacuum induction through to triple melt. A team of chemists, metallurgists and technicians works with analytical equipment and process controls. WASA lists TQCSI and Nadcap approvals. It also says it has approvals from a number of end users for aerospace and power generation uses.
The parent group is named as a supplier to Airbus, Boeing, GE, Rolls-Royce and other makers. The site says these makers depend on it for airframe, engine and power generation parts.
The website also covers work health and safety, employee benefits and community work, such as Australia's Biggest Morning Tea and a push-up challenge for mental health. It has a contact form, with phone numbers for Perth, +61 8 9455 4111, and Albury, +61 2 6025 6777.
