About Volaris
Volaris is an ultra low-cost airline. It flies in Mexico, the United States, Central America and South America. The company's legal name is Concesionaria Vuela Compañía de Aviación. Its aim is to let more people travel by keeping fares low.
The airline says it serves 73 destinations. It runs more than 450 flights a day on 230 routes. The route map on its website lets travelers explore the destinations and sort fares by price.
Volaris began in 2003. Two investment funds joined forces with TACA Airlines to create it. The first flight took off on March 13, 2006, from Toluca to Tijuana. Later that year the World Bank, through its Latin American financial arm, granted 40 million dollars in funding.
The fleet has 145 Airbus aircraft. There are 3 A319 jets, 98 A320 jets and 44 A321 jets. Of these, 58 A320 aircraft and 34 A321 aircraft are the newer neo version. The company says its average aircraft age is 6.5 years, which makes it one of the youngest fleets in the Americas. It also says it was the first airline in North America to use the A320neo.
Volaris adds sharklets to its aircraft. These are small wing tips that cut fuel use. The airline says they reduce about 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year. Its affiliate company is listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange and on the New York Stock Exchange.
Passengers can join the altitude loyalty program and earn points on trips. The airline also sells an Annual Pass for unlimited flights and the v.pass for one trip a month within Mexico. Premium Plus seats give more room. Business customers can use v.business, and frequent flyers can join v.club. Group travel and cargo services are also offered. Codeshare partners include Copa Airlines, Frontier, Hainan Airlines, Iberia and Turkish Airlines.
The website covers booking, flight status, baggage, check-in and flight changes. It also has pages on travel documents, press news, investor relations and careers.
