Tanzania Civil Aviation Training Centre

The Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC) is the training arm of the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) in Dar es Salaam. It has trained technical staff for air navigation services since 1985, and its status is set by the Civil Aviation (Training Centre) Establishment Order, 2020. It trains air traffic controllers, engineers, security staff and other aviation professionals for Tanzania and other countries.

Training areas

• Air traffic management: aerodrome, approach and area control, procedural and surveillance
• Communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS), for example VHF radio maintenance
• Aeronautical information management
• Aviation security, including ICAO workshops and basic screener courses
• Flight and airport operations, including dangerous goods courses
• Drone pilot training and instructor training

Facilities

Two campuses: Terminal One at Julius Nyerere International Airport, and the Transmission Station building near Aviation House at Banana, Kitunda Junction. They have classrooms, a library, a 3D aerodrome simulator, an approach and area surveillance simulator, an AVSEC laboratory and a computer laboratory.
