About Kingston Flying Club

The Kingston Flying Club received its initial charter in 1929. It is one of the founding and longest standing members of the Royal Canadian Flying Club Association. The club has trained pilots from the Second World War through to current CF-18 pilots. It has operated as a commercial flight training centre for more than 70 years.

The club is a registered charity. All revenues are invested back into the club. Approximately 125 members belong to the club. Each year the members elect a board of directors to oversee affairs. The day to day operations are managed by volunteers and paid line crew.

The club conducts training for several licences and ratings. Programs cover commercial pilot licences, recreational pilot permits, and private licences. The club also offers night ratings and instrument ratings. Training programs are flexible and fully customizable to meet student needs. Students can train for fun or for an aviation career.

The club operates two aircraft. The fleet includes a Cessna 172 single engine aircraft with 150 horsepower and four seats. It also includes a Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche twin engine aircraft with 320 horsepower and four seats. Both aircraft are fully IFR equipped. They feature certified Garmin GNS 430W GPS systems with WAAS augmentation. These aircraft are preferred for training because of their reliability and safe handling. They have an excellent safety record.

The club is located next to Kingston Airport. The airport has four runways and six approaches. The low traffic volume and proximity of good training areas reduce wasted time. This provides a diverse training environment from introductory flights through advanced commercial training.

The club offers a 30 minute introductory flight. This is a first step for those who want to discover aviation. The club also lists ground school, private rental, and charters. Weather information and online booking are available through the website. The club is open 364 days a year. It is closed on Christmas Day. Success stories include first solo flights and multi engine ratings.
