About Excalibur Systems

Excalibur Systems was established in 1986 to create PC based avionics test equipment. Its focus is communications. The company says every product it develops and sells is geared toward helping engineers who work on communications systems on aircraft, ships, rugged vehicles, radars and missile systems.

The company says it has expanded the number of host platforms and I/O interfaces it supports. It has pioneered multi protocol hardware and software, and it introduced rugged computers, standalone translators and recorders. Its customer relationships are a point of pride.

Its multi protocol carrier boards come in the 8000 and 4000 families. Military protocol boards cover MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MMSI and EBR, H009 and AS5643 FireWire 1394B. Civil boards cover ARINC 429, ARINC 664 Part 7 AFDX, ARINC 708 and 453, ARINC 717 and ARINC 825 CAN bus.

Other boards handle serial interfaces, discretes, A2D and D2A conversion, and Ethernet. Form factors include PCI, Compact PCI, PC104 Plus, PCI Express, Mini PCI Express, PCIe104, USB and Ethernet, ccVPX and ccXMC. The EXC-8000 ccVPX supports up to four removable protocol modules and ten on board discrete inputs and outputs.

Systems include the MACC protocol converter, the Dragon rugged PC/104 system and the MARC mini data acquisition system. Portable 1553 and 429 bus analyzers, a 429 tester, a flight simulator tester, and data acquisition systems and recorders are also offered. The MARC II mini recorder is built for flight use.

Excalibur also offers software applications, power supplies and couplers. The company offers courses, tutorials and jointly written specifications for custom or semi custom products. It says it has been asked to update products in the field for over 20 years and can usually respond positively.

First line support comes from in house engineers who know the products. The site includes a technical library with standards, a glossary, FAQs and tutorials for MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC. It also publishes obsolescence notices, such as the notice for the EXC-4000 carrier boards.
