AMREF Flying Doctors

AMREF Flying Doctors is an air ambulance and medical assistance company based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. It was founded in 1957 by three surgeons, Michael Wood, Archibald McIndoe and Tom Rees, and flies patients across Africa and to the rest of the world.

In 2007 it became the first air ambulance operator outside Europe to receive full "Special Care" accreditation from the European Aeromedical Institute (EURAMI). It is also a member and provider of the International Assistance Group (IAG).

Fleet

The fleet includes a Cessna Citation Bravo (C550) air ambulance jet with room for two stretchers and one seated patient, a range of about 2,000 nautical miles and a cruise speed of about 350 knots, used within Africa and for round trips to Europe. AMREF has flown Cessna Grand Caravans since 1996.
