About ALTA - Latin American & Caribbean Air Transport Association

ALTA is the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association. It is a private, non profit group for airlines in the region. Its members carry more than 85 percent of the air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean. The office is in Bogota, Colombia.

ALTA was founded in 1980. The site says it works with public and private groups to make aviation safer, more efficient and more sustainable. Its strategic pillars include safety and security, advocacy and regulatory alignment, operational efficiency and innovation, and sustainability. The site says ALTA works with authorities to build a more competitive and sustainable aviation sector in the region.

The safety work includes ISSA and IOSA programs, country safety initiatives and a CBP partnership. ALTA also supports ICAO and CLAC work on regulations and approvals. Technical and maintenance topics, fuel, and air traffic management for flights within the region are also on its list.

The site publishes data and reports. It lists a traffic report for Latin America and the Caribbean, industry data, presentations and an ALTA Brief. A Mexico Aviation Insight report, released in October 2026, covers the country's air market, traffic, cargo and fleet.

The association runs conferences and events. The site lists its 22nd AGM and Airline Leaders Forum in Mexico City, held October 18 to 20, 2026, with Aeromexico as host airline. Further events are listed for Santiago, Cancun and Panama City in 2027.

The site also covers the ALTA Aviation Law Americas Conference in Miami, held in September 2026. It says more than 170 airline executives, lawyers and industry experts attended. The Periodismo de Altura Award is another program on the site.

The site has a newsletter sign up, a press section and a contact form. The contact form was marked temporarily unavailable because of scheduled maintenance. Social media links cover X, LinkedIn and YouTube.
