Calgary Airports announced on 4 November 2026 that two more lanes are open at ABC Security, putting all nine lanes into service. The authority runs YYC Calgary International Airport and screening is done with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA). ABC Security is on the departures level between doors 4 and 7, and travellers on any airline can use it.

About the ABC Security checkpoint

The airport says the checkpoint can now screen about 1,800 to 1,980 passengers per hour. That is more than 70 percent more than the old domestic screening setup used before the end of 2025. The airport says the extra lanes provide flexibility to manage peaks and aim to cut time in line.

Phase one opened in December 2025 with seven lanes. It replaced three separate domestic screening points with one central checkpoint. Since then, more than 3.7 million travellers have used ABC Security.

The airport expects about 40 percent more travellers to pass through YYC over the next ten years. The design gives clear sightlines, more room to move, and dedicated help for travellers who need extra space or assistance. "With all nine lanes now open, we have greater flexibility to meet demand and more space to create a comfortable, welcoming experience," said Chris Miles, Chief Operating Officer for Calgary Airports.

CT X-ray screening at YYC

Every screening lane at YYC uses CATSA's CT X-ray technology. Travellers can keep large electronics, medical devices and permitted liquids, up to 100 mL each, in their bags.

CATSA began a multi-year national rollout of CT X-ray technology in 2024. Denis Perron, Senior Director of Screening Technology at CATSA, said the agency is pleased that the ABC Security expansion is now complete as part of that rollout.
