The price depends on the route, the dates, the season and where the aircraft has to come from. A full charter costs more than an empty leg, because you pay for the flight back too.

Figures are Textron Aviation numbers for the Citation XLS+ from its brochure. Wikipedia lists a range of 1,858 nm from an older maker page, which probably uses different reserves, so we use the brochure. Textron's current page for this model now covers the Citation Ascend, the successor.
The Citation XLS is a midsize jet from the Excel family. It carries up to nine passengers and flies about 2,100 nautical miles. More than 1,000 Excel, XLS and XLS+ aircraft have been delivered, and charter companies and fractional operators fly them every day.
Cessna announced the Citation Excel at the NBAA convention in October 1994. It first flew on 29 February 1996 and the FAA certified it in April 1998. Cessna built 308 Excels, then switched to the XLS.
The XLS arrived in 2004 with stronger PW545B engines and a glass cockpit, and 330 were built. The XLS+ followed in 2008 with FADEC engine controls, PW545C engines, Collins Pro Line 21 avionics and a new nose. The next step is the Citation Ascend, announced in May 2023 and in service since December 2025. It has new engines, Garmin avionics and a flat cabin floor.
Private owners, companies, fractional operators, charter companies and management companies fly the XLS. NetJets is a major operator. The Swiss Air Force uses it too.

Cessna built the Excel cabin by shortening the Citation X cabin by about 2 ft. It is 18 ft 6 in long, 66 in wide and 68 in high, so most adults can stand up. A typical corporate layout seats six to eight passengers. A dense layout seats up to ten.
The XLS+ has a refreshment center, a lavatory and a side facing couch. The baggage compartment is on the outside of the cabin and holds 90 cubic feet. There are eleven large windows.
