4 years agoYou’ll really like Dawn and the staff. When I needed a Cirrus checkout for insurance in a limited time, Dawn was proactive and helpful. Buck Smith is a great instructor whose long experience as a CFII shows through. Did I mention the SR-22G6 they have is sweet?

2 years agoA flabbergasting (bait and switch) experience with OpenAir. I was reluctant to write this review, but others considering flight training at OpenAir should be aware of my recent experience. YMMV. I signed up for a "discovery flight" fully ready to start taking lessons with OpenAir and pay ~$20K, but their customer-unfriendly business practices have made me decide to pursue training elsewhere. My flight experience with Paolo was 5/5. OpenAir as a business is 2/5. Paolo was a consummate professional. He was a great instructor, and a delight. But OpenAir's approach to operating as a business is deficient. Prior to my discovery flight, I spoke with a nice front desk representative who answered all my questions about OpenAir, training, and she explained in CLEAR terms about what cost I should expect to pay ($285/hr for the flight rental and $100/hr for the instructor for a total of $385 plus tax). Flat fee, great. Fast forward to checking out after the flight. A different person at the desk then quotes me $505. He calls the Operations Manager, Dawn, who then instructs him to say that it's a minimum of two hours of instructor time plus headset rental plus taxes. At NO point were these additional charges disclosed during the two calls and email correspondence leading up to the discovery flight. Nor is any of this information on their website (as of 7/20/22). Dawn refused to honor the flat rate I was quoted (and confirmed). She took off $59 as a "courtesy", but would not admit their failure to properly communicate and disclose the full fees associated with a discovery flight. She dismissed the notion that her staff provided accurate information and, paradoxically, kept repeating that their mission is to provide complete customer satisfaction. My sincere recommendation is to avoid OpenAir for flight training until they tighten up their business operations, and actually live up to their mission of customer friendly service. For OpenAir to choose to forgo ~$20K in revenue over $120 was jaw dropping. But in the end, I dodged a bullet by not affiliating with a company that promotes questionable business practices, and treats customers as a transaction. Simply blaming (and charging) the customer for OpenAir's mistake is unacceptable and unprofessional.
