I flew with Lukas today for an hour towards the Rockies. Visiting from the Uk and holding FAA certificates I hadn’t flown for a few years and just wanted to experience flying in Calgary.
We had an awesome flight and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to get back in the air again.
The guys behind the desk were great too and I’d highly recommend this flying club.
I’ll be back.
If you are looking for an interesting and cool experience in Calgary, book a intro (sightseeing) flight with CFC!
Took my Dad here for a birthday sightseeing flight because we both had been interested in flying for a while. It was amazing, Andy, our pilot/instructor was really informative and you could tell how passionate he is about both flying and teaching.
I was expecting only sightseeing but when we checked in, he asked about any interest either of us had in learning, and after telling him I did, he said he would let me try flying! I thought he was kidding at first, but he gave us a really great mini-lesson before, and I got to be in control of the airplane for quite a while once up in the air! Such an amazing experience, really cool!
Of course the views are beautiful and we got an hour so we really got to see a lot. Even just as a sightseeing flight, it was fantastic, but being involved and having a little lesson really made it cool. It was really well priced and it was easy to book. I would 100% do it again.
Parking for visiting planes. Follow the dashed yellow line towards the south side of the ramp. There you will find designated guess parking along the south fence line. First come first serve so would recommend calling in advance to make sure there is room for your aircraft type.
If you're looking for more than just a flight school, a community of amazing talented & hard working instructors. This is the school for you! Holding 12 Cessna 172, Two PA34-200T, 1 C182, 1 Floatplane, and 1 Aerobatic aircraft on top of two Simulators! Offering everything from Private Pilot, Night Rating, IFR, Multi-engine, Multi-IFR, Commercial Pilot, aerobatic, float rating, and instructor, ETC!! Instructors take time with their students to make sure they are prepared for their exams and checkride, even keeping in touch after the student has received a license. Renting and lesson hourly rates are impressively low making getting your wings more accessible to more avgeeks. The club also has onsite Ground School for courses, plus a large gathering area upstairs with a double patio area with BBQ, and a local run cafe located inside the main building.
I had the opportunity to fly with a few flying clubs/school during my training and I can say that the Calgary Flying Club is awesome flight school with amazing views if you do some XC into the mountains.
Unlike other flight schools/clubs, I found they offered monthly promo discount off of their fleet. (At one point I was paying around 157/hr on Cessna 172 with their august promo 2021. Most schools don't even offer such promos ever, so this was an added bonus)
Looking at the previous reviews. I did feel that yes some of their planes look beat up. But the majority of them are well equip for what you're paying for them. At the end of the day they all fly the same. If you always want a nice plane just book in advance and you will have one with two G5's and GTN 650XI
