Lufthansa Unveils 100-Year Anniversary Livery
As part of its upcoming centenary celebrations in 2026, Lufthansa has unveiled a striking new livery on a Boeing 787-9. The design marks the airline’s 100 years of service and reflects both its heritage and future ambitions. Aviation milestones such as this continue to highlight how branding shapes the industry, much like we’ve seen in private jet marketing.
The commemorative aircraft features a predominantly blue fuselage, with the iconic white Lufthansa crane soaring above and its wings blending into those of the jet itself. A bold “100” is painted along the fuselage, symbolizing the airline’s century of operations.
Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, described the design as a tribute to the company’s legacy: “Our Lufthansa crane stands for safety, pioneering spirit, premium quality, but also for freedom and reliability. This has been the case for the past 100 years and will continue to be so in the future. The special livery of the Boeing 787 honors our identity and also stands for a proud team of Lufthansa employees who give everything every day for the safety and well-being of our guests.”
The Boeing 787-9, registration D-ABPU, was painted in Charleston, USA, following final assembly. It is scheduled for delivery in November, with entry into Lufthansa’s long-haul service fleet in December. For context, new liveries often play a key role in highlighting milestones, much like the growing attention given to aviation events worldwide.
As Lufthansa prepares for its 100th anniversary, this special livery serves as both a celebration of its history and a signal of its continued role in global aviation. With the airline expanding its modern fleet and brand presence, the centenary year promises to be a landmark in European aviation—comparable to other major moments we’ve covered, such as small private jets shaping market demand.
