Heritage Flight Museum has announced adjustments to its 2024 Fly Days schedule due to repairs on runway 04/22 at Skagit Regional Airport. The May Fly Day will proceed with specific restrictions and free admission, as detailed on the museum’s homepage, while the June and July Fly Days have been canceled. Visitors are encouraged to check for updates as the summer progresses, as the museum explores options to host a full Fly Day event before the season concludes. This year, the museum will not host a Fly Day in April, so please plan your visits accordingly.
Fly Days, typically held from April through September on selected Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, offer a unique opportunity to witness vintage warbirds in flight. Despite the challenges, the museum remains a premier location for aviation enthusiasts to see historic aircraft in action. With many local aircraft museums closing or relocating, Heritage Flight Museum stands out as a vital venue for these spectacular displays. The events feature aircraft from the museum’s own historic collection and often include planes from other local organizations, ensuring a varied and exciting experience for all attendees.
Safety and compliance are paramount at Heritage Flight Museum. The museum works closely with local air traffic controllers to ensure that flights do not disrupt other traffic at Burlington and are conducted safely. All flights adhere to FAA regulations and the airport’s voluntary Good Neighbor Policy. The museum’s vintage aircraft are meticulously maintained and flown by highly experienced pilots. Visitors can expect an engaging day filled with multiple flight sorties, static displays, and educational exhibits, complemented by food vendors and activities for children. While the museum strives to provide a memorable experience, attendees are advised to check for real-time updates and be prepared for potential weather-related changes.
What to Expect at Fly Days
Schedule: The sequence of flights at our Fly Days can change rapidly due to various factors. As such, we do not post a detailed schedule, as it is likely to change throughout the day. To ensure you catch some exciting aerial action, we recommend arriving at the museum within an hour after doors open and planning to stay for at least 3-4 hours. Typically, we conduct 4-6 flights throughout the day. Between flights, there are plenty of static aircraft and exhibits to explore within the museum.
Food: A food vendor is usually available on-site, offering a variety of refreshments. Additionally, water, coffee, and tea are provided at the volunteer station for your convenience.
Kids Activities: The Future Flyers table offers aviation-themed activities designed for children. While we provide engaging activities, please note that child care is not available. We ask that parents supervise their children at all times while on museum grounds.
Phone Calls: We encourage visitors to call the museum with any questions before the event date. On Fly Days, our staff are fully engaged in the hangars and unable to answer phone calls. For the latest information, please check our website or Facebook page.
Weather: Weather conditions are beyond our control. If Fly Day coincides with unfavorable weather, we will make every effort to conduct some flights. We appreciate your patience during such times, as we usually manage to fly before the day ends.
Vehicle Parking: Ample parking is available, though high attendance may require a longer walk to the front door. Please plan accordingly.
Pets: Only registered service dogs are allowed on museum grounds. Other pets are not permitted.
Fly-ins: Due to the construction of new hangars starting in July 2023, we can no longer accommodate fly-ins. The museum’s ramp is unavailable for aircraft parking during Fly Days. For transient parking along runway 29/11, please contact the Port of Skagit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Fly Days and sharing our passion for aviation history with you.
