Rob Garcia, the owner and Chief Instructor at GreyCat Aviation, is without a doubt the finest flight instructor I have encountered since starting my flight training journey in 1985. He has a friendly, low-key, yet no-nonsense demeanor in keeping with his confidence in his vast knowledge and experience, His dedication to aeronautical education is readily apparent and permeates all his flight training interactions. He has a remarkable ability to present material in a systematic, clear and understandable manner underscoring his depth of knowledge and which provides an exceptional learning experience no matter what the students level of proficiency. Due to prolonged but temporary medical issues on my part and prior commitments on Rob's, I contracted with an accelerated flight instruction program to complete my Instrument Flight Test spin up after being off almost a year. Their very capable and experienced instructor commented over and over on the demonstrated quality of my previous training. More than once, he stated, "You have been exceptionally well trained. You must have had a fantastic (great, exceptional, etc.) instructor. He was right.
When my son, training where he lives far away, was having trouble getting to solo, I had him come up and fly with Rob a couple of times. His most telling comment was: "So that's how it's supposed to be". In a couple of flights, Rob had reset his threshold for quality training and gave him the ability to go home and seek/demand a similar training experience. He is now building time towards his instrument rating.
The only downside is cloning is not yet a viable technology as I firmly believe the aviation community could use a lot more Rob Garcias.
Rob worked with me via email to coordinate our busy schedules to complete my tail wheel endorsement in a timely matter. His accelerated syllabus had each lesson build on the one before and even allocated time for breaks in between each lesson. He was calm throughout the training and allowed me to make the corrections needed to be a safe pilot yet learn from minor mistakes or misjudgments.
Rob worked with me to schedule tail wheel training and even with both having a busy schedule we worked it out easily. He is very good flight instructor and was able to give me enough control to mess up enough to learn what happens. Will diffenatily go back to refresh when I get a tail wheel bird. He is very good at reading what skills I have as a pilot and instructs accordingly.
