The admissions department is an absolute mess. Ever since the new VP, Tony Turner, took over the admissions department has had a toxic environment that has not only been harmful for employees but also incoming students and their families. Tony hasn’t been able to keep a director under his leadership and has continued to harass certain employees. He’s created an environment where integrity and hard work are less valued than aligning with his own narrative. His hiring practices have led to many concerns and led to this departments instability. Employees continue to face significant challenges, including overworked staff and unresolved leadership issues. I also observed unfair and immoral practices revolving scholarships. In some cases, students who did not meet certain criteria where awarded scholarships simply because they complained or caused a scene while others more deserving were overlooked. This lack of transparency and fairness further eroded distrust within the admissions office, Tony has consistently undervalued the expertise and integrity of his employees, even when staff provided evidence to clarify situations, Tony disregard them on a consistent basis. He is only interested in his own ideas and his own narratives. This undermined employee morale created an environment where staff felt under supported and devalued. I would strongly caution any student looking to go here, but more importantly, especially any employee looking to work in this department to look elsewhere.
Had some professors that I really enjoyed and learned a lot from, but also had some I didn't like who's lessons were a waste because I learned nothing. Overall the BBA classes were quite difficult and required a lot of studying. I had 1 professor in International Business who was just downright disrespectful and demeaning to students. Also, I lost thousands of $ due to the financial aid department not knowing their job.
Pros are that the campus is beautiful, nicely maintained, and has good food options at the cafeteria. Parking is also easy.
We visited for the Oyster Festival, but they were out of oysters an hour into the event and we did not get any. Disappointed there was no communication when oysters were getting low or running out. Back up food was undesirable, cold and icky. Campus was beautiful.
While a family friend was helping my brother move out of the dorm, the RA in Quad 2 made obnoxious comments saying: “Why is there a female here? She shouldn’t be here.” And began stalking the halls despite her only trying to help my brother move out of the dorm, making her very uncomfortable. While I do understand this is a “male’s only” dorm, I do not see any restrictions that prohibit family/women from helping students move out. If you’re going to have students make insultingly demeaning comments and follow women around to “patrol” them, maybe assign male resident assistants, such as this one(who didn’t offer to help at all), to assist male students with moving out of their dorm? (You know, since we’re living in 1950 again, apparently.) I expect nothing less from a religious institution in a deeply conservative state, but this is extremely disgusting behavior and no woman should be stalked & followed by a man she does not know. This should have been addressed accordingly by an employee, not a college student, and if the RA felt this was a matter of genuine concern, they should have contacted their superior, instead of taking matters into their own hands and causing uneasiness by following around a young woman. Sickening behavior allowed by CSU.
Home football game for the Bucs. Didn't go as we hoped, but we had a great time. My daughter is a member of their marching band, The Pride of the Low Country. Their performance was great as usual.
