ACES is a great place to start out learning to fly. The Diamond aircraft are very technical with their Garmin GPS systems and electrical trim and flap features. Also the staff and instructors are very nice and flexible because they make the students schedule around their availability.
Aces isn't like your typical flight school. It's not like a factory type I've been too, such as university of Oklahoma and Embry-Riddle. They really help you out and everybody gets along. The diamonds are really neat to fly and they are up to date with the times. The staff will do anything in reason to work with you. After moving back up here from riddle I did research of flight schools in the area. There aren't many options. Aces gives you better bang for the buck and the smaller school structure doesn't make scheduling and flying difficult.
After spending two years here at aces I have no real complaint. The staff is great! Knowledgeable, friendly, and have a safety first mind set. They are very willing to work with you in order to help you out. But it took me awhile to figure out that they are not going to hold your hand to make you fly. If you don’t show up and don’t show interest they are not going to waste your time, their time, or the time of the other students that want to be there. Put yourself on the schedule 3-4 times a week you will be cancelled due to weather once or even twice a week depending on the time of year. I’m usually found on the schedule 4-5 days a week at 730 am because no one else wants to be there and the plane is always open and I usually have better, calmer weather. Anyways a lot of these negative reviews are from when the old managers were in charge, Eric Stormfels has turned that place around and is always looking at ways to improve the school. I am very happy with my decision to pick aces.
It is a nice little flight school with a great staff. I got my instrument rating there and am working on my commercial. The diamond aircrafts are fun to fly and they have a pretty nice arrow too.
