I learned how to fly here in winter of 2021. I can say with confidence I do not regret that decision. This school teaches you how to be independent and make good judgement when flying. If you enjoy a “mom n pop” feel this is the place for you!
When I was shopping around I remember speaking to Delcy whom, instead of giving estimations based off of vague figures, showed me federal regulations which outlined very plainly the hourly requirements and we did the math right there together. It became clear in just one night of thinking that this was the obvious choice due to affordability, easy commute, and family feel.
One memorable year later of flying with new friends, bringing my dog with, and showing this passion to family I became an instructor here and continued that legacy of quality personalized flight instruction.
The training and flying attitude here helped me land my job flying Cessna Caravans, Piper Navajos, Cessna Conquest, and Beech King Airs. My coworkers regard me as a highly competent individual and frequently reach out with technical know how questions since teaching was an expertise of mine.
As long as you are forward thinking, self motivated, and respectful you will succeed in aviation!
When I say my first rental experience as a private polot was superb, WOW was it nothing short of amazing! Gorge Winds, from beginning to end , accomodated all my needs and wants. After a checkout with one of their CFIs (who was EXTREMELY kind and motivating), I rented on two occasions. I finally fulfilled one of my items on my bucket list to visit Pacific City and was in sheer awe of the area. On top of Gorge Wind's hospitality for my rental, they also held onto my ADS-B Sentry that I forgot after one rental period (oops!). You will find the greatest and most compassionate people here. The FBO building itself is unbelievably cozy and something I've never seen anywhere else. Scheduling was fairly easy and there was plenty of availability if you looked at the right days. This will be my immediate option for my next visit to the PNW. THANK YOU GWA!
Great experience with Gorge winds getting my PPL. Planes are great, relatively affordable and availability is very reasonable when compared to other schools. I started in another school but was unhappy when they had rapid increases in rental prices and instructors nickel and diming every minute. You won’t find that in Gorge winds.
Gorge winds instructors are great, reasonable and helpful. Delcy is very perceptive to students progress, evaluation and runs the operation very well. Don’t believe the bad reviews- come in and talk with Delcy about flying- that’s what I did before becoming a student here.
Gorge winds is a great place to learn how to fly and always relaxed if you’re looking for a coffee while waiting in the FBO.
I did my multi-engine addon here in the C310R. Delcy was a great mentor and led me to success on my first checkride attempt! Followed by plenty of time spent flying, $100 hamburgers, and more. I can’t recommend GWA more.
If you want get flight training , here is where you should go . Reasonable price , Professional , skilled flight instructor. With Delcy’s leadership. You can’t find another flight school can be better than Gorge Winds around Portland.
