I went to Aurora for my ATP multi. I was there for 5 days and finished 1 day behind only because of the weather that week.
The plane was a duchess (BE-76) that is a little bit dated. It's a basic 6 pack (no glass) and was limited on the approaches (no GPS). Otherwise, the plane itself was easy to operate and worked just fine.
The instructor was very hard working and had a great attitude. When I decided I wanted to change some things for my checkride, he bent over backwards to help me. Plus he even loaned me some study material so i didn't have to waste a lot of money.
The maintenance guys and all other employees were very accommodating and helpful. Anything I needed they did with a smile.
Overall, I've been to several flight schools and this was a better experience than most. The people working there are great. The instructor is genuine and is not looking to build time for the airlines, the rest of the employees are all very approachable and willing to help. The building and facilities are very basic and the plane doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it was all I needed. For the Waco area, I would recommend it.
Last year, I decided to try and take up learning how to become a pilot. I gave the lead instructor my schedule and my timetable for how long I had, how much I wanted to spend, and a date to finish. There were a lot of things about this school that made me very dissapointed.
The first was I was transferred around in the school with different instructors. I do not think this was necessarily a bad thing, but it would happen without notice and frequently.
The next was my schedule. I was shifted around and cancelled or had to change my schedule quite a bit to make it work. I was paying a premium for the service at this institution and did not get treated this way.
I then had to keep pushing my dates back to complete the course. I ended up not finishing and went over my budget to try finish the classes. This school has a '100%' pass rate but that is only because they will not let you take the finial assesment until they clear you. This is a good thing, but just understand that you may be ready to take the exam but you then need to go through another few hours of training until they clear you.
Hope this helps. I also found similar schools nearby for significantly cheaper, but I thought that paying the premium for this 'great school' would help me get through the courses. This is not the case.
