I took private pilot training with Charles and thought he was a great instructor. He told me day one that some people like his humor and style of teaching, while others won't. Judging by some other reviews, my guess is they're the latter. Charles has a very laid back teaching style in the brief room and kicks in a few jokes every lesson, but when it comes time to flying the airplane, it's all business. Yes, he's pretty darn strict in the airplane, but why wouldn't he be? Flying an airplane is a serious thing, and I would rather have him drill me over and over on things rather than me not being prepared for an emergency. He definitely knows his stuff and I picked up on everything pretty quickly. I got my PPL in 43 hours and highly recommend him to anyone looking to be the safest of pilots.
Flight instruction was fun, and very easy to understand. An easy to follow curriculum, with an instructor that adapts to your skill levels and learning abilities. If anyone is looking for flight instruction in the Kalamazoo area, this is by far the best place to go! Highly recommend
Charles is an excellent flight instructor with many years of experience. You'll have a good experience in training and learn how to fly the airplane very well.
I would highly advise you to find someone else with some sense of customer re-pore. This guy must be retired and living off his pension, because it is not possible that he is trying to make a living with flight instruction with a personalty like this. Met with Charles this morning and was surprised at the lack of professional behavior I experienced. Dude was totally bent out of shape because google couldn't plot the address he gave me, and was ticked that I was looking for a storefront based on the address. I'm not sure how this guy can say he has been doing this for i think he said 30 years. Wow, what suffering students had to bear to get through lessons.
