Skill Aviation is an excellent flight school with awesome instructors and very well maintained planes. I have tried three different flight schools and none of them come close to how professional this flight school is. I highly recommend Skill Aviation for your flight training or even just aircraft rentals.
I first flew with Skill Aviation in August of 2012, after I already had my private pilot's certificate, and I was very impressed with their professionalism and their focus on safety. I felt like I better understood the aircraft systems after my training than I ever had before, and I was certainly a better pilot.
During the summer of 2020, when I decided to get my Multi Engine add on, I decided to train with them again. Not only did they have an amazing twin diamond DA42 for me to train in, the instructors and the staff at the flight school ensured that I got the best training available. I felt safe with their well-maintained aircraft and the aeronautical decision-making skill set I walked away with, will last me a (long) lifetime.
Finally, when I decided that I wanted to own an aircraft, I was fortunate enough to find a Diamond DA62 that was just right for me. I decided on this aircraft after many conversations with the staff at Skill. Skill helped me meet the initial training requirements that I required, and they were extremely accommodating with my training schedule. They have pilots on staff who are well qualified to help with DA62 Transition Training.
I look forward to working with Skill again in the future when I seek recurrent training, BFRs and/or IPCs. Who knows, maybe a commercial amel ticket is waiting for me in the future... Skill will make sure I'm safe and proficient. Thanks for everything!
My experience with flight schools and flying clubs is limited to military Aero Clubs and Skill Aviation. So, while I don't have a basis to compare Skill to other civilian schools, I can tell you that I have been very happy with my experience with them.
I got my ATP through Skill. Their attention to safety and quality of instruction compares favorably to my military experience. They provided excellent teaching tailored to my experience level, concentrating on the gaps I may have had in civilian flying knowledge.
I rent from Skill regularly, and their attention to customer service is exemplary. They are always willing to be flexible and accommodate my unusual situations, like early/late arrivals/departures, and complicated payment arrangements. They really know how to keep their members happy, and bend over backwards to accommodate me. On one trip to Alabama, the airplane had a minor engine control malfunction which nonetheless required a landing short of my destination.Skill got the airplane fixed and brought it to me in Alabama so I could fly the return trip! I doubt many flying clubs would go that far to help me out, at a not insignificant cost to themselves.
My son and daughter have also taken flight lessons at Skill, and my son recently soloed. I was confident putting my children in their hands. My son asked me after a few lessons, "are all aviation people so great?" He finds the instructors to be very easy to fly with and learn from.
I will continue to fly with Skill as long as my medical holds up!
Skill Aviation is the best, currently taking my training. Great environment, Instructor CFI Harrison is very knowledgeable and cares about the completion of your course. Very happy with my experience. Recommend Skill Aviation over any other school in the Chicagoland area.
I did an accelerated instrument rating with them. It was great, and there was a plan for every lesson. I'm pretty happy with it, and now I'm punching holes in the clouds.
