I contacted the Flight Academy to obtain an EASA PPL conversion from my FAA license. At the time I was a commercial, instrument, multi-engine pilot with 800 flight hours. Since May 2021 the PPL conversion process has been greatly simplified by a regulation known as TIP-L, which in short states that the only requirements are a medical exam, a short oral theory demonstration and a practical exam, just like a typical PPL checkride . As an Italian born and raised in the United States, my Italian isn't perfect but it's good enough. I didn't expect to find many difficulties in completing this route in the 3 months I was in Italy for this trip.
Unfortunately, I found a flight school that was profoundly unprofessional, disorganized and not very serious. Instead of helping me meet the simple and straightforward requirements of the TIP-L, they quoted me for 22 hours of theory and 6 hours of flight instruction. I suggested that it was unlikely that I needed 22 hours of theory, as I had studied the EASA PPL material and was ready for the exam. The head theory instructor seems to have taken offense and, to prove his point, asked me to take the standard ENAC exam for human performance and air law, which I failed by a slim margin because I had prepared and studied for the specific subjects described in the TIP-L, not for the Italian national CAA exam. I don't know if the school was simply incompetent and didn't know how to apply the TIP-L requirements, or if they were malicious because they wanted to bill more paid training, but the net result is that I couldn't get anything and if I had gone to a on the other hand I would have completed the license conversion. If you read the other reviews about this school, unfortunately it seems that my experience is not unique.
Basically this appears to be a company with the primary goal of generating revenue by any means - not a flight school with competent instructors interested in developing pilots and helping professional pilots improve their training and qualifications.
Short English Version: FAA license holders do not contact this school for EASA PPL conversion. They are not capable of doing it and you will waste time and money.
I wonder how, after two bankruptcies and a trial for fraudulent bankruptcy underway against the owner, here in Italy he is allowed to reopen for the third time.
Stay away, very far from these subjects. If you do something with them DO NOT ADVANCE A EURO. They took away 50 thousand euros between Viterbo and Perugia. Gone!! They reopen by changing the name of the business owner and you get screwed.
These ''schools'' only take away work from real aeronautical companies... Attracting people with funding and pilots with large salaries.... Which nowadays are tempting..
GET INFORMED.. IN ITALY THERE ARE MANY OTHER COMPANIES THAT OFFER FINANCING, SERIOUS and long-lasting CONTRACTS for both students, instructors and staff.
They also remove reviews by flagging them so people can't see the uncomfortable comments
This leads to the fact that even if they renewed themselves, they did it also thanks to the money they STOLE from me!
