Great planes (its a blast flying a G1000), knowledgeable instructors (ask for Kaleb), and friendly staff. But airplane availability is pretty bad (like 3-4 weeks out at peak times), especially in the summer. That being said, they did just add planes to the fleet so that might help. The facility is kind of dated but clean and useful for the purposes. -1 star because I had to find my own FAA examiner for my check ride after they told me they would find me one from their normal pool and I went 3 months without any real update. Bottom line: A great place if you are planning on a career in aviation, probably better options around if you are flying recreationally.

The facility seems like a nice place. Their equipment and planes are in good shape however, my main concern is if this school has your best interests at heart verses chasing money and numbers. I was undecided between helicopter or airline pilot. I wanted to do a discovery flight and attain information on the schooling process, costs etc. However, after trying to do the discovery flight the flight instructor seemed to have no interest in educating me on anything on what she was doing or allow me the opportunity to try flying the plane. We were up in the air for nearly an hour and I got the controls for about maybe 20 seconds before she took control of the plane again providing no real experience of flying an aircraft. To me it seemed as if she was using my hour I paid for to gain herself an hour of experience. I am a very detailed oriented person and like explanations of the process and what I can expect as a student since this is a large investment of time and money. Anytime I was on the phone with someone I was treated like an inconvenience like all you do is show up, shut up and you’ll figure it out. Did not give me great confidence that this facility aims to provide what they say they offer; a path to an excellent future as a pilot.

Completed my private pilot training at McAir in 2018 and though I was satisfied and had nothing but great experiences with McAir, I decided to pursue instrument and commercial training at a much larger, nationwide program in Dallas. Though all of my training up to this point had been 141, while attending the “name brand” school I felt a lack of personal attention or interest in MY success. A combination of unexpected life events and COVID issues forced me to discontinue my training there which, fortunately, brought me back to McAir to finish up. After having experienced other facilities, fleets and programs, I feel that I am where I want and need to be. The staff is friendly and helpful, the instructors are committed to student’s safety and proficiency, and the fleet is immaculate! It may be somewhat more expensive than other operations in the metro area, but well worth it. I recommend McAir to those that I care about and somewhere else to those that I don’t.

I'll start by saying everyone here that I've spoken with comes across as very polite and generally helpful though it seems it can be difficult to get responses to email sent to administrative staff at times. That said, if you're looking for a Part 61 course, stay as far away from McAir as possible! If you're unsure about Part 61 vs Part 141 then visit a legit Part 61 school first. I did my research and felt Part 61 was the right option for me for a number of reasons. I went on-site for an initial appt to take a tour of the facilities, during which I was told multiple times that Part 61 was no problem at all. The facilities and equipment looked pretty good, so I decided to go ahead and sign up then and there. Completed the docs as a Part 61 applicant and promptly scheduled for orientation, and told that I could sign up for Ground School with their partner Kings School or another Ground School of my choice. Within a couple days I got an email from Flight Schedule Pro saying I was enrolled in the Part 141 program. Spent the next 2+ weeks trying to get that corrected yet kept getting the run-around, and finally was told Part 61 was only available to those who get a very rare approval from the Director of Academic Operations who would not respond to multiple emails simply asking for clarification and correction. It took me nearly withdrawing from the school to actually get a phone call from him. Once on the phone he was very polite and encouraged me to try their Part 141 program because it would still fit my needs and I agreed to that since he came across as very reasonable and polite. Fast forward another week, and I find out the Online Ground School I've been working on for several weeks at this point will not work, and Part 141 students are required to buy a physical starter kit from their office to register for the Kings Online Ground School. So all that time and money spent on the original Ground School I signed up for after signing up at McAir was completely wasted. BOTTOM LINE: This is a decent school with good facilities and equipment for Part 141 students, but those looking for a Part 61 course should stay far away unless you want to light some time and money on fire... No clue why they can't just be honest from the start and say "We're a Part 141 only school" UPDATE: I'm 5 lessons into the Part 141 program, now and all is going well. I have a good instructor, the equipment and facilities are nice, and scheduling is pretty easy (though availability inside of 2 weeks is almost non-existent, but that's to be expected anywhere). Overall having a positive experience now as a Part 141 student, and this would be a 5 star review if it weren't for the wasted time and money at the beginning. So would encourage others to sign up here, just be informed.
