7-6-24 Amazing!!! Big Thank you to Peter our flight instructor pilot at journeys aviation. Journeys aviation staff were all great to work with and they make you feel very welcomed. Peter our flight instructor, he is an absolute hoot of character, Very humbling, Confident, personable, Genuine and understanding man of his time. Peter was a blast to work with, to be flying with Peter and knowing his time / experience as a pilot as an individual of his great character just put everything at an amazing calm to understand his teaching of how the mechanics + science that goes into flying and having complete control of the aircraft. I can genuinely say that Peter as our instructor being up in the air with him just made all the negativity of the world disappear and everything at a calm knowing that we were with Peter because of his pure and genuine character. Just wanted to say thank you Peter for being who you are and thank you journeys aviation for having Peter as one of your amazing instructors!!
I got my ppl at Journeys. I was always met with professionalism and care by not only my instructor but others. If you choose this flight school there is a great community of local pilots that can point you in the right direction. There is a certain feel some small airports have, a bit of General Aviation magic. KBDU and Journeys are host to exactly that. This place is a great place to start your flying. Great instructors who will invest in you, as you do your training.
We went to Journeys to Meet Elemental Aviation and do a demo flight. Jorneys was great and very accommodating. They have a wonderful setup and the planes look great. My wife flew with Holden in the Alpha Trainer and she had the most fun in any airplane, she can't stop smiling. She is now talking about wanting to get some flight training. Thanks Joyrneys Keep the Boulder Airport open and Keep flying! I will be looking into the getting checked out with Journeys. The prices are very reasonable for rental rates, and the Boulder airport is less busy which equals more training or flying time. Thanks Journeys we will be back soon!
Great instructors, everyone is super friendly. Should note everything is pretty chill and there isn’t really a streamlined course progression, so make sure you’re ok with that model of learning.
Overall a great place to work and fly with awesome ownership and linemen, but plagued by huge underlying management issues.
There is little to no standardization between how instructors are allowed to charge for flights. Some will blatantly and obviously take advantage of students by rounding up time or having overly long and unproductive ground lessons. Many of these instructors rarely send students to checkride because it is detrimental to them and their time building goals. They do little to hide this.
Other instructors are incredible, straightforward, transparent, and honest, and genuinely want the best for you and your aviation career because they love flying and want you to love flying too.
Very few staff actually live in Boulder
There is zero standardization for pay. My onboard pay was more than what some people who were there for years were getting paid, and were never offered a raise. After my stay, new hires were offered more than what I was offered.
Additionally, management does very little to facilitate teamwork, morale, and productivity, and is generally interested in enforcing policy, or changing policy to better fit their opinion of how the business should operate—with little to no interest in the opinions of people who actually make the business run day to day.
Because of this, customer service is nowhere close to streamlined. If you fly here, do not be surprised if your flight is canceled the same day (even just a few hours before) even for multiple days in a row. This has happened countless times to me and to other folks.
Fuel is relatively cheap compared to surrounding airports, and depending on your aircraft, service will be relatively quick.
Aircraft are very well maintained and safe. I would argue better than surrounding airports.
Terminal is well kept. Folks on both (glider and FBO) sides of the field are lovely and great to talk to and will not hesitate to give you advice on how to achieve your aviation goals.
