Attended IASCO to finish my airplane rating with a strict timeline since I am concurrently training in helicopters at another school & attending college. They were extremely helpful, professional and had plenty of aircraft available to help me get the training done, all while keeping their word of when I would finish. The flight instructor I had (Pak) is highly experienced but still demonstrated a lot of motivation, I generally try to avoid CFI's with over 1k hours because they are usually "checked-out" and ready to move on, so they become complacent with training students. This was not the case with Pak immediately after flying with him, so I continued.
This school has a more professional and procedural setting than most, as they primarily train to prepare students for the airline industry. While this is not my preferred setting, this school far exceeds their past reputation and ATC in Redding is one of the best, very friendly and understanding operators! I also like how they give many foreign students a great opportunity here in the US, it's commendable. Unfortunate with what happened in the past due to a few bad eggs but it seems they have remedied that situation quickly.
So, if you're wondering if you should try them out after their previous incident, give it a shot. I've been to many flights schools and very few are as honest as they are. Additionally, the condition of their aircraft are very good compared to most schools. As a military aviation mechanic with 8 years experience, I was impressed that they don't pinch pennies on maintenance.
The only con I have is the school does not use FSP (FlightSchedulePro), so scheduling is manual.
I went there for the multi. I felt that they prepared me well for the fundamentals of multi engine flying and the checkride. I passed on the first try. I would feel safe renting one of their multi engine airplanes and fly with my family in it. Some feedback to them would be to reduce out of town student stress by providing lodging at an affordable cost by either providing company owned housing or maintain agreements with hotels in the area. Not having to drive back home for two hours after my lesson would've provided much relief...since hotels in the area are quite expensive. Second, Redding gets very hot in the summer and all the airplanes are completely exposed to the sun on the tarmac. Getting in one feels very much like a chicken fryer. I strongly recommend that they purchase portable air conditioning units for their airplanes. That way, it can be activated during the pre-flight and the airplane will be much more comfortable during normal operations. Other than that, good flight school and would recommend using them to obtain any or all desired ratings.
The flight training is actually pretty good. Unfortunately it’s only available to students who are not forcibly detained and terrorized by Trumpian flight instructors.
The best recommendation is to seek training from ANY other training school. You’ll be happier and better off if you do.
They don't respect the communities below them they fly over towns with no regard of the communities below them. I would not associate with any organisation that has that disrespect for other people
The actions of a few do not define the intentions of an entire company. I know a few great IASCO instructors that provide patient and thoughtful instruction to their students
